The last day of the summer, before Missy and her other siblings went back to school, Mack decided to take them camping at the Wallowa Lake Northern of Oregon. When they got there the four of them helped on setting up the tents and put everything together. The next day at camp while Mack was fixing breakfast for his children, Josh and Kate asked him if they could ride a small boat that other family near them had; they promised to wear their life jackets, even though Mack's answer was no they insisted until they changed his mind. At this time Missy was coloring inside a shack that Mack had rented for them to stay, she was wearing her last clean clothes; a pretty red dress with flowers around it. When Mack went out to check on the other two, Josh raised his hand like trying to wave at his dad, this made the small boat unbalanced and caused to flip over. Mack ran near them and waited for they to come back swimming, when he saw Kate swimming back, but he didn't saw Josh, he took his shirt of and swam towards the boat, he found out that Josh's life jacket was stuck on the boat some how. Everyone at camp came running like if trying to help, they saw how Mack was saving Josh and when he came back with him they all clapped. Mack tried to spy on Missy but there were not signs of her, he want inside just to make sure she was doing fine, but she wasn't on the table she was coloring on. Mack ran back where everyone was and asked if anyone had seen Missy, but no one seem to know where she was, they all divided in groups and went looking for her, but no signs of Missy.

The next day after searching for a long time for Missy, the FBI officers take Mack to this old shack in the middle of the forest that no one ever knew about, they took him inside to verify if an item that was near the fireplace was Missy's, it was her red dress with flowers around it, it was all ripped out and covered with blood, Mack started to cry like a baby holding his daughter's dress.
