Bruno's Conversation With Maria

A couple of days later while Bruno was laying on his bed in his bedroom, the house maid entered and started folding Bruno's clothes and putting them where they belong. "It's horrible, isn't Maria?" this started the conversation between Bruno and her. She tried not to say things that later she would wish she never said. Bruno tells her how much he misses his old home and his grandparents, Maria tells him that his father is just trying to keep them all safe and what he is doing is the best for everyone, this words didn't make sense to him, he asked himself why he had to be living in a place where there weren't any neighbors around. While conversing Bruno says that his dad is stupid and that if he did his job well back in Berlin then they shouldn't be living where they were now; Maria quickly tells him to never say that again in his life, she starts telling Bruno how he helped her giving her a job and caring for her even though he didn't knew anything about her life. She says that he is a wonderful man and that she hopes that he is doing the right thing. Gretel (Bruno's sister) then enters the room with out knocking and asks Maria to run her a bath.

Bruno Decides To Talk To His Father

Bruno thought that the only way they could go back to Berlin was convincing his dad about it, he thought that if he told him that he didn't like it here and that he missed his friends and his old school his dad would probably change his mind and would take them back to their real home. Bruno hadn't seen his dad since they arrived at Out-With, he waited for some soldiers to get out of his father's office so he could go and try to change his mind. When the soldiers left Bruno walked towards his fathers office and knocked on the door, after the third time knocking his dad called him in. His dad made him sit on a chair right in front of his desk, the first question he asked him was, "What do you think Bruno; about our new home, do you like it?" Bruno answer No! right away, this didn't surprised his father he knew that it was going to take them time to get use to the new kind of life they were going to live form now on. Bruno insisted that he wanted to go back, but his words didn't change his father's mind even a bit, to calm things his father told him to go back to his bedroom, Bruno being obedient, goes back to his bedroom crying.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

This book is by John Boyne and its starts with a kid name Bruno he is only nine years old and has a sister of twelve (Gretel). He lives in Berlin in a big house with both of his parents and a couple of servants. Bruno doesn't know what his father's job is, the only thing he know is that he wears a fancy uniform. Bruno's family is moving to a place called Out-With, because of his father having to work there, Bruno dislikes the idea because he doesn't want to start making friends over again and leave behind the ones that he already had in his old school. When they get to their new house Bruno quickly knew that it was not going to be easy for him to get use to the new kind of life he was going to live from now on. The house was smaller and there was no neighbors around it or parks or anything that Bruno could have fun with. While exploring his new house Bruno looks outside the window from his bedroom and discovers like a small town where everyone seem to be males and kids, they wore like pyjamas and seem to be controlled by soldiers. Bruno quickly tells his sister to come and see this place (from his window) and they both know that something bad is happening in this place.

Mack Sees Missy

After Mackenzie gets of of the court place where Jesus took him, Sofia (the judge) takes him to this beautiful water fall, there he tells Mack to go around it and see what was behind it. As Mack got closer to the back of the waterfall he heard a group of kids playing and laughing, he then realizes that they were his children, the only one that he didn't see was Missy, but she later appears in front of him and he sees that she is doing fine and she is happy, Sofia tells him that Missy knows that Mack is there but that she couldn't see him or heard him. Mack couldn't believe it a first, this brought a lot of comfort and peace in him. Mack later asks Jesus why were the other four of his children there also, he tells him that they all were dreaming the same dream, but Missy was the only one that was actually awake.
After Mack sees this he understands that God is not a bad person that he just wants the best for him and his family, and that he wasn't really the cause of his daughters death.

Mackenzie and God

Mack opened the door and let this African looking woman in, he asked her who she was and she answered Elousia, but you can call me papa, this was awkward to Mack because Nan used to call god papa all the time. The old and ugly shack started to turn into a beautiful brand new sack and the snow started to melt and flowers and trees started to bloom. later after a conversation between Mack and God (African woman), two others came into the house, one of them was guy and the other one was a girl, Jesus (son of god) and Sarayu (holy spirit) . He explains him that he wants Mackenzie's relationship with her to be closer and that together they will cure all the great sadness in him. Mack was really confused about all this, the image of god he had wasn't the same at which he was looking at the moment, he thought he was a white man, but apparently it wasn't. After God finished making breakfast, she called them to the table, when they were done eating Mack was making all this questions to God like why didn't he protected his Missy or why did this even happened, God understood his pain, and told him that this is why she was here to explain everything to him.

Walking On Water With Jesus

The same day Jesus takes Mack for a walk, they cross the lake behind the shack walking on the water, he talks to him about how earth is like a child that has grown with out parents that guide him, Which is how Mack feels, because his relationship with his father wasn't the best one. He takes Mack to this Hispanic judge, she asks him to sit on the chair ( judge's chair) tells him that he is going to judge god, like he has been during the last three years (he said that he was the cause of Missy's death). Then she asks him which of his children he loves the most, that he had to pick two of them to send to hell. Mack starts to realize that judging people is very easy, but to judge them he would have to wear their shoes and feel the same way they are feeling, he then recognizes that god has done a lot for him with out him noticing.

3 Years After Missy's Death

Missy's body was never found. When Mack got the invitation from papa (god) in the mail he kept thinking if this was only a joke or if he should take It serious and go to the shack and see what this note was all about.
Nan and her four children; Josh, Jon, Tyler and Kate, decide to leave to Nan sister's house which is out of state, for a week. Mack decides to stay home, after they left he asked one of his friends to tr
ade cars ( his car for a jeep), because after 3 years of Missy's death he was going back to the Great Sadness (the shack) and the weather was bad and his car wouldn't make it into the forest. Mack gets everything ready including a gun in case everything was a about a trap at leat he had something to protect himself with. When he gets there everything seemed to be exactly the same, he nervously entered the shack and asked if anyone was home, he tried to avoid looking at the fireplace (where Missy's dress used to be), but he couldn't he saw that Missy's blood stain still there, he started crying; "I'm sorry honey, I'm sorry". Desperate he started yelling for the person who wrote the note to appear, he started braking everything that was on his way, but the shack was empty. Minutes later someone knocked on the door, he was afraid to open, but somehow he did, it was a black woman.

The Great Sadness

The last day of the summer, before Missy and her other siblings went back to school, Mack decided to take them camping at the Wallowa Lake Northern of Oregon. When they got there the four of them helped on setting up the tents and put everything together. The next day at camp while Mack was fixing breakfast for his children, Josh and Kate asked him if they could ride a small boat that other family near them had; they promised to wear their life jackets, even though Mack's answer was no they insisted until they changed his mind. At this time Missy was coloring inside a shack that Mack had rented for them to stay, she was wearing her last clean clothes; a pretty red dress with flowers around it. When Mack went out to check on the other two, Josh raised his hand like trying to wave at his dad, this made the small boat unbalanced and caused to flip over. Mack ran near them and waited for they to come back swimming, when he saw Kate swimming back, but he didn't saw Josh, he took his shirt of and swam towards the boat, he found out that Josh's life jacket was stuck on the boat some how. Everyone at camp came running like if trying to help, they saw how Mack was saving Josh and when he came back with him they all clapped. Mack tried to spy on Missy but there were not signs of her, he want inside just to make sure she was doing fine, but she wasn't on the table she was coloring on. Mack ran back where everyone was and asked if anyone had seen Missy, but no one seem to know where she was, they all divided in groups and went looking for her, but no signs of Missy.

The next day after searching for a long time for Missy, the FBI officers take Mack to this old shack in the middle of the forest that no one ever knew about, they took him inside to verify if an item that was near the fireplace was Missy's, it was her red dress with flowers around it, it was all ripped out and covered with blood, Mack started to cry like a baby holding his daughter's dress.

The Shack By William Paul Young

It was a cold night and Mackenzie was sitting on the leaving room drinking hot cider. He looked out the window and saw how everything was covered in snow and how the water drops turned into ice just when they touched the ground. His wife Nan who work in the hospital with patients with cancer, called him and told her that she wasn't coming home that night because of the bad weather. Before this Mack went out to check the mail, he received an invitation saying that he was invited to the shack, but something that surprised him was that it didn't have a stamp or an address, and it also said it was send by papa.

Mack has five children, two of them girls; Jon, Tyler, Missy, Kate, and Josh. Missy was the youngest one with only five years old.

The relationship with Mack and his children is special, he was very close to each one of them, but like any normal parent he had his special children; Missy, he had a special feeling for her, and he though it was normal because she was the baby of the house.
