Eddie's Regret & Anger About Life

Posted by: Best Sellers Class / Category:

Since the novel started readers notice that Eddie carries a lot of anger and regret about his life with him. Unfortunately his life wasn't so easy, he realizes that even though he was a good worker and man, he never did anything for himself. He spend time fixing the rides and making sure everything was on good condition, sometimes he forgot about his life doing stuff that sometimes he didn't needed to. He knew that he didn't lived his life the way he wanted. An example to this are his birthdays. Somehow every single day of his birthday something bad happened; however, Margarete always tried to make this a special that day for him, she never forgot about Eddie's birthday. This was one of the things that Eddie missed the most after she died, he knew that he could had expended more time with his wife if he wanted to.

I really recommend this book to anyone, not only because its a great novel, but because it holds anyones attention and makes you want to read more. I usually have hard times reading books that I don't like, but this one made me keep reading. Mitch Albom describes every single detail and in my opinion I think he did a great job on writing this book.

Posted by: Best Sellers Class / Category:

Eddie meets his third person in heaven, "Ruby" he doesn't recognized until she tells him that her name was the name of the park where he used to work on, and that her husband was who founded this amusement park.
Readers see a lot of regret and anger in Eddie about his life, probably this was the cause from his father beating him when he was drunk, or ignoring him since he was little.
Ruby's purpose is to let Eddie know that all parents damage their children in some way, that there are not perfect parents; they don't exist. Something significant about this chapter is that Ruby shows Eddie a part of his parent lives on earth that he didn't know that happened before he was born; that still affected him, and which started his dad's alcohol problems.
Mickey Shea who is one of Eddie's dad best friends was drunk because of him losing his job and family problems that he had. While Eddie's mom was getting change in her room, she takes off her blouse and at this moment Mickey hugs her and she starts yelling. Eddie's dad comes in to the room and starts beating up Mickey. He thought that he was trying to take advantage of his wife, but days later he discovers that he was drunk crying because of losing his job. At this time Eddie's dad starts drinking much and becomes an alcoholic. Ruby tells Eddie that this mistake that Mickey made was the reason of his dad drinking problem.

Eddie is a squat, white haired old man, with a short neck, a barrel chest, thick forearms, and a faded army tattoo on his right shoulder. He used
a cane to get around because of his left knee being wounded in war was ruined by arthritis.

The story opens with Eddie's 83rd birthday. Acting like he doesn't really care about it, he spends all his time working at the park making sure the rides were in good condition. The hours went by and Eddie was acting normally, walking around the park like usual; not knowing that this was the last day of his life on earth. While walking Eddie found one of his closest friends, Dominguez. After a little conversation Eddie reaches into his left pocket and takes out two twenties and gives them to Dominguez, asking him to buy his wife something special. This was one of the last nice things Eddie did before dying.
The same day in the afternoon Eddie heard a woman yelling with her eyes to the skies. He immediately saw the top of Free Fall; the new tower attraction. One of the carts was tilted to an angle as if trying to drop its cargo. While trying to save the four passengers in that ride, Eddie gets killed by one of the carts falling on him, "GET BACK!" were the last words he said to the crowd. Eddie felt two small hands in his own before dying; he did not know whose they were.
